Things With Feathers is a short narrative that challenges the cultural silence to sexual assault Black women have created as a coping method. Through the eyes of Aaliyah, we experience the struggle one girl faces to keep the family together before worrying about her well being, to deal with her spiritual healing over her mental and physical, to aspire to cope, and to fight to find hope.

It is an unfinished country. The only thing missing here are the dinosaurs. It’s like a curse that weighs on an entire landscape. And those who are too concerned with it have their share of this curse. It is the only country where creation is still unfinished. If you look closely at what surrounds us, there is a kind of harmony. It is the harmony of overwhelming and collective murder. And we in comparison to the articulated meanness and baseness and obscenity of this whole jungle – er, we in comparison to this enormous articulation – we just sound and look like badly enunciated and half-finished sentences from a stupid and cheap suburban novel.
